On March 7, 1990 the first issue of weights hit the Internet. Weights is the first Internet mailing list devoted to the use of weights in exercise. Whether it is bodybuilding, toning, powerlifting, or conditioning for sports, it is fair game in weights. Also covered are topics such as nutrition, weights for children, supplementation, the pros and cons of steroid use, and much more. The idea behind weights is that it is a place where people using weights in an exercise program can get together and discuss (practically) whatever is on their mind in a flame-free environment where you don't have to worry about a contribution being an ad in disguise (look here for the WeightsNet FAQ).
Over the years, the membership ofweights has grown into the thousands with subscribers on every continent. Subscribers range from teenagers to seasoned veterans, from complete beginners of all ages to professional bodybuilders.
With the advent of the World Wide Web, there is now a chance for weights to expand beyond the mailing list format to be an even better resource for the Internet's weightlifting community. Important articles from past issues of weights, gym recommendations from subscribers, contest results and pictures (try getting those on a mailing list) are all now possible. WeightsNet is that resource. Long-time weights subscribers should not worry that weights is going away. The heart of WeightsNet will always be the weights list.
WeightsNet is always growing as I'm always learning more about what people want. Sometimes I get behind but I'm always looking for tools that will help me to improve WeightsNet. Please feel free to send WeightsNet any ideas you have about the site.
